Quality Trust for Individuals With Disabilities, Inc.
The Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities (Quality Trust) exists to advance the interests and rights of people in the District of Columbia with developmental disabilities, including mental retardation. Created pursuant to the Evans consent decree and settlement agreement in 2001, the Quality Trust provides monitoring, legal, and lay advocacy services for individuals with developmental disabilities requiring habilitation services, care and supports. Legal services provided by Quality Trust include legal advocacy and education to individuals with disabilities; referral to appropriate independent legal services providers and attorneys; and coordination of the provision of legal services in matters requiring individual legal case representation. Quality Trust also provides technical assistance to attorneys, volunteer advocates, family members or other entities who represent persons with disabilities. As part of its legal program Quality Trust also files "friend of the court" or amicus curiae briefs on issues directly related to our mission to advance the interests and rights of people with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities in the District of Columbia. |
