| WHO WE ARE |
|
The Mental Health Project of the Urban Justice Center provides free
legal and social work services to low-income people with psychiatric
disabilities in New York City.
The Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Legal Advocacy Project PPDLAP
will provide free expert representation, information, and advice to
parents with psychiatric disabilities in Family Court, primarily in
abuse and neglect, foster care, and termination of parental rights
proceedings. The project will serve New York City,
Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.
In addition to direct legal representation in Family Court, PPDLAP will
provide an array of technical assistance for all stakeholders, including
publishing a Family Court Handbook for parents and non-lawyers, hosting
professional trainings on representing parents with psychiatric
disabilities in Family Court, establishing a website, and engaging in
community outreach programs.
